Hook up cable for use in Europe

Hello,

We are taking our bongo to Europe this Summer (France, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy) and I am not sure what type of hook up cable we need! When we bought our Bongo it came with an unused 10m orange cable with blue connectors, labelled: 'Site to caravan mains connection lead ' - this is the original packaging but it does not have any further information on it other than the CE mark! Does anyone know if this is the right one to take, and if we need to take any kind of adaptor? Have not used the hook up before - are they the same in all countries? Any advice please! Thanks :)

It should fit modern hook up points - your problem will be the older ones when you will probably need an adaptor like this

Sounds fun.

Most places have the blue ones but you find the odd site especially in remoter areas that just have whatever th local domestic plug is. You can either buy a plug at a local supermarket as we did or if you are lucky the campsite management will have an adaptor cable as happened with us in Portugal

Don't forget in Austria..... If your not fitted with Daylight Running Lights or a module to run dip beams when ignition is on....... use dipped headlights or a €50 fine will be coming your way.... Italy also has areas where they are needed too... You will find many German registered cars of all ages are being retro fitted with DLR modules especially those close to the Austrian border...
Some roads in Austria are also subject to a Vignette - http://www.tolltickets.com/country/aust ... lang=en-GB

On the mains adaptor that Scanner advises..... get 2 and wire one in reverse.... also get a plug in mains tester like Image if it shows that the leccy isn't wired okay....check the lights on the plug......then use the reversed adaptor

Have a good holiday.....

Are you sure about that Mike, I thought they had actually been banned in Austria in 2008 after the accident rate went up when they started using them.
Have they had to reinstate them again under they who must be obeyed in Brussels?

Yep...... DLR are full time in Austria plus Czech republic and Hungary as well as the Scandinavian countries.... parts of Italy and Portugal require use too ....the Dutch have voluntarily adopted DLR in some parts following the 2000-2003 trials.....

As I say many Germans retro fit DLR modules which power the headlights only (lets be honest crossing borders in the EU is like going from Wales to England) to save the €50 fines.....for forgetting to illuminate.....to be fair.... DLR do make a difference to being seen and can assist in insurance claims too
DLR will be very common here soon, lets face it.... 09 plate cars are already being MOT'd and the 2011 on with standard DLR will be required to have them "armed" at MOT time .....

Thanks for all replies - good tip about the DLR - had not considered that. Will make a note in our 'book of things to remember'!

Seventiesboy - we are going by ferry from Dover to Dunkirk, then driving to Voseges for a few nights, then on to Kitzbuhel. From there we drive to Maribor, and then onwards to Croatia where we plan to spend most of our stay. We will head to Trieste on our way back, then to Lake Garda, then Chamonix, then Quarre les Tombes before getting back to Dunkirk. That's the current plan but we are prepared to play it by ear a bit! We have not booked any campsites but have got an idea of where the main ones are. We are taking our mountain bikes and plan to do some riding and sightseeing as we go!
