both myself and the wife have noticed a couple of times when wet, the rear end slides out a bit on round abouts.normally only when your niping about round town,and not when taking it easy

Sure this will happen in any rear wheel drive car ,but not noticed it before like this.??? but we have just put our rear seats back in so guess the extra weight wouldnt help things
All tyres are good with pleanty of tread on them

Know iam due to change front drop links,and ball joint,track rod ends,but cant see how that would effect the rear end....

Anyone else getting this at the moment? did think it was just a patch of diesel at 1st but i took it out tonight and had the same thing happen to me.

have you got a lim slip dif? are you lifting off the throttle when it happens or accelerating? roundabouts can be very greasy, I know this only too well as a biker and the surface is often worn and deformed. i have had the back step out once when turning right and accelerating to get into a gap and I know someone who has done a 360 in a Bongo when not going particularly fast. I think you have to be light footed when it is wet maybe.

as far as i know i dont have lsd..like you say maybe just take it easier,maybe driving it like a car rather than a camper!

Two ton trying to go sideways, front end asking it not to. I discovered my 4wd on a wet roundabout a couple of weeks ago. The back end swung out like I'm used to in the small car, but the front end seemed to stay planted. At least that's what it felt like to me, but I guess all I'm saying is that I don't think it takes that much to put the back end out in the wet. Not a reason to get rid of it, though...

It has happened to me a couple of times in the wet. Each time when accelerating out of roundabouts. The second time I ended up facing the oncoming traffic. Very embarrassing but at least they all then took it carefully having seen what I did. They have since made the surface more grippy in that location. Several times I noticed cars that had gone right off into the bushes there. Those were the ones whose fronts didn't stay put!

As I keep my tyres fairly hard to save fuel, I now tend to treat roundabouts and bends with extreme caution when it rains on top of traffic deposits.

It is just because there is not much weight really in the back end of the bongo, any stuff to carry stick it in the back..or a bag or two of sand helps,lol. I know because I have done it.

Agree with David Edwards, mine has become much better on slippery surfaces since I had a rear conversion added. The extra weight over the rear axel totally stops any waltzing around.

Just enjoy it.

Probably leaking chip fat on to the tyres.

Might just be due to diesel spills on the roundabout, there seems to be a huge amount on the roads now.

I sometimes drive a rear wheel drive pickup at work, which is a bit light at the back when unladen, and last winter found myself exiting a roundabout looking out of the driver's side window, it turned out that there was a huge oil slick on the road.

Luckily I learned to drive in a rear wheel drive car, so the old instincts kicked in and no harm resulted, apart from having to clean the seat.....

Tyres must have a major bearing. I find my Bongo pretty surefooted in dry and wet, though I don't pretend its an F1 racer. I have some gorgeous pirelli p7s that I got cheap on ehay and that are now in their 4th year of service. And the Bongos mid engine keeps it fairly well balanced. I recall driving Triumph Heralds and Morris 1000 Travellers in the wet. Now they WERE skittish at the back, on crossply tyres to boot.

ha ha not really,
ive played arround in the snow and ice ,but only this year i have noticed in wet roads the tail slip out,wife was with the kids and went sideways so thought i should bring it up..

The only time the back end stepped out on mine was in the snow and I was provoking it although mine us 4wd with LSD, still caught me a bit by surprise but brought the back end in. I miss riding off road bikes
