Bongo Fury

Morning all

My bongo has just failed it's MOT as the fog light has been rewired to the near side reverse light, which still has a white bulb in it. Don't know how it's managed to pass before now, but hey ho!

I can't seem to find a replacement bulb or even know where to look. The only red bulb in Halfords that appeared to be a replacement didn't fit as the bayonet fittings weren't 180 degrees from each other, but more like a 120deg/240deg arrangement.

Anyone know where I can get the necessary bulb, or should I be looking to buy a flush-fit fog light?

Btw, the offending bulb which I have removed is stamped as: 37R E8 (or6?) 212.

File off one of the lugs, or search for a 382 in red.

382 is the bulb type with the 180° lugs
581 is the type with the 160°/200° lugs

The 581 base is typically used for coloured bulbs, the 382 is typically used for clear ones - however you can get coloured 382s.

Here is an eBay listing for 10 x 382 in red, for £2.90.

Hi it needs to be on the off side or the centre of the vehicle, at the rear.

Hi it needs to be on the off side or the centre of the vehicle, at the rear.

Maybe thats why you still have a white bulb in the n/s lamp.

Just a thought - there isn't a blown RED lamp in the Offside cluster is there ?

Mine had the offside reversing light converted to a fog lamp - it was just a normal, single filament, 18W red bulb available from the local motor shop or Halfords.
It definitely won't be the nearside light that is converted.

I agree. Now THAT would/should definitely be an MOT fail.

Imagine the scene in the fog as Mr Stupid thinks I'll just overtake this motorcycle without crossing the double white lines

You're all right, it is the offside light, my mistake. And I agree with the Halfrauds comment, but my dear papa picked it up for me as I needed it quickly. It will be returned, have no fear, and I can pay back the money I borrowed against my house to afford it!!

I have now ordered the correct ones from eBay.

Ah gower if you had gone into the pound shop or the 99p shop in town I am sure I saw them in there last week, might make a trip up to the "what" shop and pick up some and make a fortune on evil bay,lol.

Too true - they are nothing special and I paid £1.75 for two in my local Wilco/Fastfit branch

Ady, you'll note that I put Halfrauds after the local motor accessory shop, but it's any port in a storm
