Hi there

This year we are taking Roxy to France for her first foreign adventure - she is bored of this country

We are travelling to Morzine where we are staying with friends but are looking for somewhere to stay on the drive down - we are hoping to get 300 - 400 miles down

Then we plan to travel to the South and if anyone can recommend any sites that would be great

We have thought about staying at an Aire on the way down so again any advice much appreciated

When are you going? If it's during August, you'll be lucky to find sites, in the South, that haven't already booked solid I've even seen the roads, next to the sites, full up with tents etc

Camping le pins, salles sur verdon. Am there now.... beautiful, loads to do, village close, gorge walks, restaurants, lake is 1 min away, 2 hour drive to St tropez. But.... its been solid since we got here, as soon as someone leaves. Pitch is taken again next day!

Francophile is right, Schools break up from about the 5th July if you haven't booked well in advance you could struggle.

We did a similar route last year. We bought last years copy of 'Cool camping guide France'. In there were some amazing sites.

A site just south of Remis (approx 4 hrs south of Calais enroute to Morzine) is in a town called Troyes. Totally fantastic. Also the Michelling Guide is a good bet as it shows loads of municipal sites that a lot of UK based guides don't cover!

Our girls were aged 4 and 2 so were stopping for pee pee breaks quite a lot. I seem to remember someone posting that staying on the Aires as not to bad - just be careful and all that jazz.

When staying at Morzine, take the opportunity to go down to Thonon le Bains onto Lake Geneva; there are some amazing 'beach' sites and the kids will have an amazing time - the water is a little 'bracing'. Closer to home - literally 5 mins from Morzine is Lac Montriond (sorry about the spelling), thats a lovely spot and excellent for a few hours - if you can get a spot!
