GAS PANIC!

Just wanted to share a range of emotions I experienced this afternoon.

My wife called to say Bongo won't start properly...loads of white smoke.....juddering.......no revs. I rushed home expecting the worst and this was realised when I started up. Juddering and no response from the pedal. Eventually some response from the patient but it was along with clouds of constant stinking white/grey smoke and a clattering sound from the engine that sounded like someone had dumped a bag of spanners inside. I thought I was the miserable owner of an expensive pile of scrap metal.

Then I remembered what I was up to last night...... I had recently snapped the one way valve on the small EGR pipe to the left of the drivers side engine, which gives no noticeable dip in performance, so I left it. Last night I unsuccessfully tried fixing it with some glue and silicone sealant.

The top pipe had become plugged with sealant and I am guessing it caused my major life crisis as unblocking it stopped the smoking and normal service is resumed. Such a tiny thing caused such a catstrophe.

My concerns now are whether I have caused any lasting damage and what the clattering sound was when I pressed the accelerator.

Panic over.....for now.

diesel ??
this may have forced the egr valve to activate via the vac somehow.
the egr makes a thumping/popping noise (large diaphram) when working. maybe yours was bouncing.
ive worked on bongo's for about 5 years now, and only recently have i heard ONE working, this was quite alarming as the noise when switching is quite loud when the seats/flaps are up.
because of the glue maybe its not dumping the vac as it should and this forces the cold start solenoids to activate too, giving overfueling of the pump (smoke).

maybe #-o
