Bongo Fury

Has anyone ever tested van tyres on a fully converted bongo. I thought with weight issues van tyres may be an advantage. Are there any handling issues what effect did they have on MPG,

i run van tyres on my tin top. running at 50 psi all round (4 by 4). it really good on fuel ,well as good as a bongo can be. good ride too.

Had some on the front in the past with no problems and still have one as primary spare (carried). My VW type 25 has them all round.

Rightly or wrongly, I believe them to be better for surviving kerbing or blowouts.

They don't appear to carry a speed rating but I can't afford the fuel needed for going fast, so no problem there. Neither the fuel nor the tyres seem to put Transit drivers off the motorway championship.

What make van tyres are popular for the Bongo??...I'm due for a new set of tyres, and they might suit conditions here.

What size and make would you advise for 15" rims

Wheelquick in Wigan sold me a set of Nankang Toursport Radials for my 4WD Bongo size 215/65R15 96H. I have had no problems with them. I believe that they are van tryres but they are nothing like Ady's as they have max PSI 44 stamped on them.

the tyres were supplied and fitted by a proper expert company. rossendale vulcanisiing, they actually make/remake tyres, they specialise in heavy truck and van remolds, the ones they recommended are new tyres, although over rated for weight, and the number of plies they give an excellent ride and are proving very durable. they said on fitting, that anything less than 50 psi will damage the tyre sidewall, so 50 it is.
at £50 per corner, balanced, fitted. im very happy.

no commercial interest in the above named company.

I see MOUNTAINGOAT in a previous thread is running 215/65 profile. Is your speedo, accurate on standard van tyres

Lots of Bongo owners with 4WD run 215/65's the main thing is to have load ratings of not less than 93 on the front axel and 96 on the rear axel. My Bongo actualy came over from Japan with this tyre size fitted. I find my Bongo's speedo to be quite accurate against my sat nav but then the speedo was chipped to read mph by Japanese Auto Locators whom I bought it from. Whether they made any minor adjustments I don't know. My Bongo is also a full camper having a full side conversion fitted by Elite Camper Conversions of Worksop.
