Is there no end to the cooling system problems with my Bongo.2.5 TD?


Having just replaced the cylinder head there is now a weepy little leak from around the radiator bottom hose area. It looks like the radiator may be leaking. So might as well replace that as well.

However, as far as I know there was no leak prior to the head replacement. I have replaced the original bottom hose clip with a worm drive item and that is tight.

If you squeeze the bottom hose a very small drip will appear around the flange area.

I guess I should bite the bullet and replace the radiator.

Anyone had similar problems to me?

Hi.
I have just replaced a metal water pipe and flushed the whole cooling system which involved disconnecting nearly every joint to do a good flush.
After refitting all the hoses i have had to nip up several joints to properly seal the joints again.
It sounds more like your radiator is not leaking,just the joint,which although it seems tight,may just need nipped up.
Certainly if the head has been replaced,the bottom hose has almost certainly been removed to drop the coolant.
Nip it up before buying a new radiator

what hoses have you got fitted.

I have not replaced either of the front hoses at this stage as they appeared to be in good order. I will replace the bottom hose now. However, the leak appears to be coming from the bottom of the radiator. Paranoid over cooling issues..

i thought i saw somewhere that you were using silicon, or was that the vac pipes.
the reason i commented on it is that old hoses loose there spongey texture, and ability to seal well especially after a boil up

Received wisdom on the forum suggests that worm drive hose clips are unsuitable for this application as they are not self adjusting over a range of temperatures.

Well bullet bitten......replaced the radiator, caps and bottom hose.....

Took the Bongo down the Mot station this morning......straight through no advisories....how good is that?
