Hi All , My N- reg Ford Freda has all of a sudden started to overheat, using lots of coolant, any thoughts on what is wrong? I have been told it is most probably the heads cracked but being far from a mechanic I have not a clue, we replaced the thermostat just in case which has made things better but it still is using lots of coolant and overheating, especially when the air con or heaters are on in the vehicle.

I am going to be getting rid of it anyway, but not sure what I can do in the meantime, heard something about stuff you can put in that seals the head short term?????

I have no idea what I should get for it either, its a N reg 2.5TDI 2WD desiel, 8 seater not got a roof top just a sunroof, would love to know suggestions on it's value and what people think could be wrong with it.

I love my Freda, she has been an excellent car, but I have no need for her now, she is just sat on the road and wants some lovin.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Hi...

I did use Steal Seal on my Bongo when it first had cylinder head problems.

I was amazed that it did in fact work. However, you must follow the instructions to the letter.

Especially with the type and amount of antifreeze.

However, in my case this proved to be just a temporary fix. The symptoms soon reappeared. The Steal Seal people were very helpful and sent me some replacement products to try again. Sadly, my head was just too far gone.

I removed the cylinder head and found a huge crack down to the valve seat.

I have subsequently replaced the head. Even doing all the work myself, the costs soon mount up.

If you put Steel Seal in just to sell it......bad news for the buyer

Got to sell as it is or fix it and keep it...unfair to do a temp fix.and now you have put it on here it's public to read so you could be found out.

Even if you scrap it your get loads in bits if you split it all to bits, prob more than if you sell it broken down.then get scrap an to take shell away for cash

In a nutshell,,nothing,if you trade it in the Dealer will just add the part Exchange Price to the replacement vehicle, minus the scrap value plus the hassle.

Your best bet is EBay or similar "Spares or Repairs."

Cheers.

Hi chipvan, that was a good offer for a trade in with a vehicle needing a cylinder head etc, could you tell us the vehicle and price of the new vehicle.

PS did/do you have a Tin Top or an AFT vehicle.?
The vehicle in question is a Tin Top.

Thanks..
