Transmission/Differential Whine and reconditioning (V6)

Hi all, back on the forum after 120k of family workhorse miles. There is a whine which sounds like its coming from the rear on my 2WD V6 petrol 1999, only present under modest load and above 50mph, if you lift off at speed it disappears and its also less noticable under heavy load/acceleration. Im pretty sure its the differential although could be the propshaft(?) Im trying to find a way to sort this with a rear diff rebuild locally (Nottingham), while trying to avoid it spending the summer in bits waiting for parts to arrive (once they crack it open anyone ive used for import parts has taken 2-4 weeks for oem bits to arrive from Japan). Someone told me it had a ford ranger engine and gearbox, no chance its got a ford ranger diff/rear axle?? Alternative is get a scrapper whole rear axle maybe, is there any chance that the rear axle off the diesel will fit as the V6 is a pretty rare one for scrapper spares?? Many thanks for any help/comments from anyone whos rebuilt the rear diff on any version.
