Having just replaced the cylinder head on my bongo all seems ok.
However, the glow plug light is now flashing when the engine gets to 78degrees....
What is this all about then?

never heard that one.
as the temps for the coolant/engine are taken at the fan switch which is fitted in the head on the driverside rear, above the starter motor, i would start there.the glow plugs themselves are controlled via the ecu from here too.
if the grey plastic end on the fan switch is wobbly, or the plug to it not connecting well, or the loom damaged, this will increase the resistance and give a wonky signal to the ecu.
if you remove it to check the switch, i can supply the resistance reading you should get when you test it. remember if you remove it you will need to bleed it again.
most of the flashing glowplug light faults usually lead back to the throttle position sensor though, on the top of the pump.

As Ady says in the last sentence, it indicates a fault with the management unit, you need to read the error number, there is a factsheet here in the Club members area

is it always at the same temp that the fault occurs, or is a time thing.
how are you measuring the temp. and is it an accurate statement. the reason i ask is this may be the point where the egr kicks in, or not as the case maybe.
the 2 rear solenoids on the drivers side rear of the head.

Humm badly worded, I mean the Engine Management Unit reporting a fault in the vehicle, the code describes the problem.
