Bongo starting problem

Hi

Can anyone help.

When I start my V6 Bongo I put my foot on the brake pedal and the pedal used to go down a little as it started. At the present time the Bongo will not start after being left for about ten days.

It is turning over but it might be turning over a little slower than was normal before the ten days without use.

It is no longer starting and the brake pedal is remaining in the same place (not going down a little).

I have had the battery on charge and the needle is now reading 4 on the charger, was reading 8 when I first put ot on charge. Do not really know what this reading is for.

Do you think I need a new battery and if so how much should I expect to pay.

The Bongo is LPG converted. Has anyone got any ideas of what the trouble might be and how I can get it fixed?

The brake pedal will only go down when the servo is working and that is fed by the vacuum from the inlet manifold. Unless the engine is running, there will be no vacuum.

Assuming there is plenty of fresh fuel, the next thing to check is whether you're getting a spark. With all the recent wet weather, there could be some moisture on the distributor cap and leads. A quick squirt of WD40 on these will help to disperse any moisture. Once the battery has been on charge for about 12 hours, give it another go and hopefully it will fire back to life

Hi Derek,

First off.. Don't worry about the brake travel on the foot pedal... The foot brake wont work very well (as far as i know) on any modern car without the engine running... Something to do with the way the hydraulics set up...?
It will be back to normal when the van is started.

Don't know could be the voltage of the battery?? Should be around 12.5v when healthy charged...

How old do you think the battery is???

I'll stick my neck out & say new battery will solve the starting problem.

Thank you both for your replies. My bongo started this morning after being left on charge most of the night.

What size battery do I need for my X reg (2000) V6 please?

I cannot see any size on the existing battery.
