HELP NEEDED NON START

I was hoping somebody could help me with a technical problem I had on Saturday with my Bongo

I was travelling down the duel carriageway happy doing 70 MPH when I came off at my junction the engine just died and would not restart at all. I ended up getting it recovered home on a low loader. It sounded like a fuel starvation problem but there is plenty in the tank and the pump is defiantly working as after slacking off the injectors fuel sprayed out. I was wondering if you had heard of this problem. I am hoping and praying it is not the cambelt snapped as we are touring France for a month in 2 week’s time! The vehicle is fitted with an aftermaket imobilizer.

Any Help or guidance would be really appreciated

Did the vehicle crank over on the attempted re-start, or was there nothing at all??

Hi Graham,

The first thing you want to check IS the cam belt.

Coming back a bit more helpful... You could try looking at the fusible link.. http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... sable+link

.. & in the cab fuse box (fuse 9) 2nd row down on the left is a 15amp, blue fuse that if gone would give similar non starting probs...? But then i would have thought the glow light would have been flashing...? :-k

Thanks for all your help.

Would this cause the vehicle to cut out while running?

Also if its new engine any ideas on where I can get a second hand one? I have 2 weeks before we leave?

Thanks guys

Hi Graham,

Owing to the fact that this is an Interference type engine, unfortunately there is a very strong possibility that valve /gear damage has been done

Your best bet is to fit another belt and check for for damage, you could be lucky.

Cheers.

If new or reconditioned engine required, try API in Leamington Spa on 01926-614333.

take the rocker cover off and check the rockers and cam, odd gaps and a snapped cam are the norm, usually under the mounts at the oil hole. if the cam has snapped check the head VERY CAREFULLY for still being true and flat across/through the cam pedestals.
pm me if you need an engine, i know where there are several in yorkshire/lancs border area, that can be delivered.

how many miles has yours done since the last change.

Sorry to hear your bad news  if it was on tick over you may get away with a cylinders worth of valves, higher revs then your in Adys (northern bongolow) scenario. I was leaving my belt to the 100k kilometres / 60,000 miles but I might just get on with it this summer.

be aware that not only the valves can be damaged, I've seen a con rod bent, once the head is off, make sure all the pistons come flush with the top of the block
