Bongo Fury

Morning all,

I'm in Fife, and looking for a Bongo.
I'm half considering the whole import game, but if i chicken out, where are the best local garages to buy a Bongo?
Ideally 8 seater unconverted, diesel, with AFT.
Clearly there's more choice the further you travel, but is it necessary?

You can get good vans up here - I can't imagine that the prices will be any _lower_ than if you were to go further south, but a few places you could try:
- Bill at Campercraft (Kirkcaldy)
doesn't always hold many vans, but does conversions, knows his stuff and seems like an all round good guy
- Dairsie Autopoint (Dairsie)
holds loads of vans, does conversions, so if you want an 8-seater you'll have to get to it before its converted!
- passed somewhere around Tillicoultry - seemed to have 4 vans on the forecourt.

There are more dealers to buy from in Scotland - search a little on the forum. We bought from Dicksons in Perth. I reasoned that buying from a local dealer I would be paying a premium but I could get something local with warranty.

Don't rule out a private sale, consider buying from a Bongo Fury member who is selling, consider a trip down to one of the more southerly dealers/importers.

Feel free to PM me if you want a second opinion on any van, a look round mine, a cup of coffee or whatever.

We bought ours from Campercraft and have absolutely no problems with it.

Another vote for Bill at Campercraft, a great guy to deal with.

He didn't have any when I was looking but was happy to offer advice and he even offered to travel to London to look at some motors with me Eventually when I did find the right motor I took it to him to get work done and again found him great to deal with.

There is somewhere in Dunfermline Manse Managment or something like that, advertising in Auto Trader, dont know anything about them other than they are in Auto Trader advertising quite a few at good prices.

Thats the ones, as i say though i know nothing about them apart from they have some advertised on the auto trader app on my Android.

I bought mine from Campers Scotland (Gary). I was pleased with the service and the Freda is Excellent, I do feel I paid over a little too much though. I took it to Bill at Campercraft who gave it a look over and confirmed I had got a good one, he also waxoiled the rear arches from the inside while he had it even though I was just getting some top lockers off him!

I spoke to the guy at Cairneyhill (MVM). He didn't have any in stock at the time but said he was getting more. He seems to import a lot of cars and a few Bongo's. I wasn't at the time convinced that he was fully conversant with the Bongos specific issues and he wasn't forthcoming with info, I had to ask whether they waxoiled on arrival or if they provided a warranty and what it would cover.

You could give Tony (Mountaingoat)a shout,he is getting a bigger van and might be selling his bongo,a lot of peeps on here will know the van.

I spoke to Bill at Campercraft, and he had good words to say about MVM Imports.
He says he's been asked to cast an eye over a few pre-purchase, and he hadn't come across any nasties.

I think you're right that MVM aren't especially Bongo-savvy, judging by a quick chat with them (neither am i, by the way!) but with Bill a few miles up the road to cast a professional / obsessive eye, it is worth a look.
They seem to have six in at the moment.

The prices at MVM look good and if Bill will look at it before purchase then you could well be on to a winner. Good luck and hope to see you out and about soon.

Tony's van has certainly been well looked after over the years, but it's converted, and I think they are after an unconverted one.
