Bongo Fury

Hi.
Advice please. No problems starting and running for the first two or three miles then a struggle to climb a steepish hill. It revs quite high and seems to lose power. Once passed this there are no problems and it seems to run fine. This happens every time . Any ideas please.

Thanks. Have downloaded the list of possibilities and will start with fuel and air filters. Where is the throttle position sensor and is there any info regardingthis device ?

in this first 2-3 miles has the temp gauge moved off the bottom, ie got to 50 deg. (probably not).

I agree. From the description, this could just be normal behaviour by a cold engine, with the hill hurrying on the heating process.

the glow plugs continue to work for a while after start up, but as the revs rise above 950 revs they turn off. if they are going on/off during the hill climb you will feel/notice this. power may fall off a tad and it may drop a gear.
are the plugs old? unknown.

Hi Having taken it out again to test, the guage is just leaving the bottom mark and has not reached normal running temp. Interesting remarks regarding plugs. I would suspect they are old I having done about 10 000 miles ( the van 112 000 ) but have never experienced starting problems.

the fact that the gauge is just about movin when the (fault) is seen/felt sort of backs up the above thoughts.
if you think of it all linked together-------the glow plugs are on trying to warm the engine below 50 degc, when you rev above 950 revs they turn off. the fan switch is telling the ecu to turn on the plugs, the revs say turn them off. depending on the revs they are going on off until it gets to the deffo off point. another factor is the speed of the water pump, increase the revs and it should cool quicker, put on the heater fans and this removes heat from the system up to a point.

try letting it warm up more before trying the hill, see if that helps, if the plugs are slow/old a quick fix may be to replace them.

Thanks. Gave the van a good warm up and run before the steepish climb and much better with just a bit of high revving before gear changes. A bongo trait ?

try changing the fuel filter,and clean the banjo filter.
