Could be for reading error codes, but who knows...

Got a picture, or can you describe which one it is?

Wiring diagram can be found here which may be of help: http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm/

Are you refering to the actual ECU (which will have lots of wires coming out of it) or the black diagnostic socket? Unless you have a problem, then it may well be best to leave it well alone: if it ain't broke, don't fix it :).

The wire is coming out of ECU middle connector , 6 pins along green wire with red stripe .
Hope this helps ? and cheers for your replies.

Code: Select all

         [TAB]
2O 2M 2K 2I 2G 2E 2C 2A
2P 2N 2L 2J 2H 2F 2D 2B
Assuming you're counting from the left, then it is perhaps either pin 2E or 2F.

Looking at the older wiring manual page for the ECU (http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm/bwmanualp.htm?1995/Page_30) and deciphering the colors (http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm/bwmanualp.htm?1995/Page_7), it looks like 2E is green with a red stripe.

According to the Service Manual (page 81), 2E is "Vehicle speed signal 2", connected to "Speed sensor 2".

That you have three connectors suggest you have automatic transmission, and if the wire colours in your van are consistent with those in the wiring manuals, then have an M, N or P reg. Correct?

Curious. (Though I'd tend to agree with Simon - if it ain't broke...)

Service manual says 2F is "Engine rev signal (input)" connected to "NE sensor".
