Cambelt change - is it just mileage or time?

Cambelt was changed in January 2006 on import to UK at 35,500 miles so done 45,000 miles. Mileage now is 80,000. Going on a trip to the mountains in Norway in July, about 3000 miles, which will be fairly hard going. Would it be wise to have it changed before we go? I would appreciate any advice.

Mine was changed five years ago and ive only done about 60k in the five years, had a new one fitted a couple of months ago and the garage said its a good job i had it done, they said the belt was starting to show signs of its age.
So my advice is get it changed, but thats only my humble opinion.

Hi Guys!

Many thanks.

You confirmed what I thought. Looks like an expensive visit to the garage. Cambelt, tensioners, tyres - current ones have done 45,000 miles and a set of brake shoes.

Ah well! Its worth keeping things up to scratch because the bongo has given us years of trouble free adventure.

I had mine done at a local garage last week. Full cambelt kit from the Bongo Shop (club members discount) + £80.00 labour = £203.00 all in. Don't forget to print off the Fact Sheet and give it to the mechanic.

definitely time or mileage, whichever is first.

Same with servicing. I work in a retirement hotel and about a third if our residents have cars, they all refuse to get servicing done on time as "I've only done a couple of thousand miles so its a waste of money".
