Alternators...

Hi
after a long battle my alternator has finally given up the ghost. I've been quoted £150-200 for a complete rebuild from a local firm. I was just wondering if anyone has had the same thing done recently and whether this price sounds about right? I've tried looking for replacements but they're not easy to find, there seem to be plenty of cheap ones with the black band but not many of the green banded type. Does anyone know how much a new one costs these days?

Ta.

Take a look at this post http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 64#p524864
It sounds about the right price for a NEW replacment, but maybe too much for a refurb? Provided you are getting the correct replacement, it has been noted that some of the refurbs and not correctly rated :-(

Thanks Gents. I thought the quote was a little on the high side. I'll post back with the final price once I've sorted something out.

Just to update in case anyone is searching for the same issue in the near future. Due to the state of my old unit I ended up buying a new, uprated (100Amp) unit from Mike at http://asarotatingelectrical.co.uk/default.aspx with fittings to mount in a bongo included. £156 all in. Fits like a charm. If you've got alternator issues, I recommend talking to Mike, he's a thoroughly decent chap and very helpful.
