Gearbox stuck in first

Hi.
My gearbox seems to be stuck in first gear and won't shift up. The hold light isn't flashing and the gearbox oil is fine and at the right level.
However, I have just had a new engine put in and wonder if the two are related.
If anybody has any ideas that would be really appreciated.

Is the selector stuck in 1st or are you in 'Drive' and the box not changing?

Does the rev counter work ok? Just wondering if the sensor on the replacement engine is working. Did you fit the engine yourself, or has it been done at a garage? Assuming its a diesel, what are the respective ages of the new engine and the vehicle it's been fitted to? The later engine (1999 / 2000) had a different throttle arrangement (drive by wire) so the TPS sensor arrangement may be different.

Hi rclapp,
Owing to the fact that the vehicle has a replacement engine fitted,I would check the gear selector Range on the side of the box.
Cheers.

Hi,
The gear selector works and I can see it changing the selector on the side of the box.
In L1 it drives fine but just runs out of gearing. In S2 I get nothing, the revs just shoot up when I press the throtle. In D its okay until I get to around 2500-3000 revs and then the revs will continue to go up but it won't change up.

Not sure as my local garage did it, I will check tomorrow when he opens.
The car was working fine for the past week then 50 miles into my holiday it started developing this problem.
I was in Wales and tried to accelerate up a hill and nothing happened. There was no bang or anything to indicate that something had gone wrong. I had to limp the rest of the way in low gear. The queue behind me was massive
