What he said :). Expect to pay about £500 with all the seals done.

When I asked around, general opinion was not to bother about changing the hydraulic tensioner, especially as it costs about £250.

If the cam oil seals are done that will involve removing the cam covers, obviously i`ll need to fit new cover gaskets,is there anything else i`ll need??
Are the oil seals a known weak spot??
THANKS... :D :D

Not a weak spot as such ...but they can start to weep after a while......whiulst you are in there it is as well to do them....as said the tensioner will almost certainly be fine

as above-get the oil seals done. The garage i bought my v6 from didn't feel the need to do them until they sprung a leak big time-they did them and a new cam belt at their expense-would have cost me best part of £800-lesson learnt.

A significant part of the cost is opening and closing the front of the V6 which is awkward to get to, the cost of the seals is minimal, they are available from the shop 2 left and 2 right banks.

Before i commit to purchase the cam kit, just wondering if anyone has purchased parts from autojapspares??
At £180 for the cam kit i want to make sure that these parts are of a high quality....mind you their Ebay shop has 100% feedback on nearly 16,000 transactions,so i`m pretty sure they will be......

Just to re-inforce would definitely get all oil seals done at the same time. My van (1998 V6 with 60 k miles) went from slight oil/petrol like smell in the cabin to loss of 2 litres of oil over 2-3 days. (Note the smell is because oil from the front of the engine will track back and drip onto the exhaust - if you smell it at traffic lights and in the car park get it checked PDQ )

Big point is that leaks from the seals will go all through the timing belt case meaning you will have to have a brand new cam belt, even if you just had it done. No question - best to bite the bullet and do the seals at the same time!

Well,i got the Bongo back this week after a bit of surgery, and all seems fine, having a good garage/mechanic certainly helps.
I had the following done..
1 Cam Belt
2 Tensioner pulley
3 Idler pulleys
4 Cam oil seals
5 Crank/oil pump seal
6 New Water pump
7 Oil/filter change
8 New coolant
9 Alternator/Air con belt
10 Power steering belt

Altogether with parts, genuine Mazda and OE spec, the bill came to just under £700,i thought that was pretty good... :D
