Flushing the cooling system...

Right peeps.....
At the moment my Bongo is undergoing a rear heater by-pass so the cooling system is `open`
Whilst it is,what is the best way to flush the system, the disconnected pipes are the ones to the rear heater matrix.
Would you reccommend i fill with new coolant or re-use to the stuff??
Also which coolant/anti-freeze do we use in the V6 Bongo,i`ve read on here about Carplan`Red`.........
Thanks again........ :?

Do a search for 'flush' and you'll get a stack of posts. This one shows a hosepipe adapter I made which was quite useful http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... lit=+Flush

With regard to coolant, I wouldn't recommend re-using the old stuff. It's only good for two years and you don't want to risk getting any sludgy bits in your nice clean system. In terms of replacement, any good quality antifreeze is fine for the V6. If you want to go for the long life stuff (5 years), then make sure you have thoroughly flushed out the system as some of the more modern stuff cannot be mixed with the older glycol stuff.

Simon,cheers for the reply.
I presume the `adaptor pipe`is connected higher in the system, around the radiator??
Then turn the hosepipe on until the water runs clear coming out of the system??

Undo the bottom hose and fit the adapter to the radiator. Connect up hosepipe and turn on the tap so it will push water around the system and it will come out of the other end of the hose that you disconnected. Also remove the caps on the radiator and the expansion tank so you can get water flowing out of multiple places. After a few minutes, disconnect hosepipe and the start flushing via the rad cap or the expansion tank so you are circulating water from different points on the system. This should help to push out any bits of crud from different directions.

Once you're done, you need to try to get as much water out as you can otherwise you may struggle to get all 5 litres of new coolant in.

Think i`ve flushed all the old coolant out.
I`ve got approx 7 litres, does that seem right from the V6,i know you said 5 litres?
I have flushed from the rad cap, expansion tank and bleed pipe until the water has ran clear, should that be enough?
( I did`nt have anything to enable an adaptor to made for the rad bottom hose).
The disconnected rear matrix area of piping was used as the exit, nice and low in the system so all should be out?
Still no new pipe though
