Does anyone have any advice on an accelerator sticking?
As you change gear (manual) it takes 2/3 secs to resume normal revs.
Its got really bad recently and people are starting to stare

I had this once on an MG Metro in the 80's..
I had to ease off the throttle by flicking/pulling it back with top of my toe..
I replaced the whole throttle cable unit because it had frayed inside the sheathing, causing it to stick & not allowing it to return naturally to idle revs...!
I'm no real mechanic, i just reverse engineered it..

Accelerator linkage:

Level: 24-173A

Someone may need to sanity check the latter.
You could try the following:
- disconnect the accelerator cable from the pedal
- check the accelerator pedal returns after being depressed
- leave the accelerator cable disconnected from the pedal, lift the drivers seat and with the engine running, manually flick the lever to increase revs - check it returns to position correctly
- (you can check which lever you're going to flick by pressing the accelerator pedal with cable attached and driver's seat up and watch it move)
- if both of those check out ok, then it might be something like jaylee suggested - ie inner cable not running smoothly in the outer
24-8002 in the second diagram linked above will probably do funny things while the vehicle is warming up or if you have the aircon turned on, so best to try the above when already warm and with aircon off.
Disclaimer - I'm just guessing!
All the best,
Matt.
