have a 1995 n plate automatic 2.5td 2wd - have a problem with what i think is the starter motor, have had a friend look at it and he replaced the main earth lead, the fault is still there, u turn the key and nothing at all- not even clicking, after several attempts of turning the key she will catch and fire up but its happening more often than not. Other than starter motor problems what other things could this be as want to try and avoid spending on something thats not gonna cure it.. any ideas much appreciated.. thanks

Hi,
It has an inhibitor on the side of the box, this is to stop you starting the vehicle in any drive position.

You could try and wiggle your gear selector when you turn the ign key.

It does look like contact fault..You really need to check the solenoid for power when you turn the ign key

Cheers

Hi,

Make sure that you don't have the heavy duty starter that is fitted to winter pack models. The ebay contact set is not compatible with the heavy duty solenoid.

Good luck
