Squeaky Wheel

I got stuck in a queue on the M4 and noticed a quite loud speed-related squeak as I was inching along. All seemed normal over about 20mhp, but below that there was a repeating squeaking which seemed to come from the front off-side wheel.

No sign of "pulling" to either side. Just the noise.

Any ideas what this might be? Does it just need lubrication for a bearing or might it be more serious?

Facts about the vehicle: 2WD, about 70000 miles.

I had this happen to me.
Turned out to be a small stone about the size of a pea stuck between the disc and the backing plate.
Worth taking the wheel off and having a look before you go to a brake centre or garage.

Did you get caught up in the post-crash jam on Saturday morning?

No 'twas Sunday night. Sheer weight of traffic around junction 8/9 I think.

Will take the suspect wheel off tonight and see if there is anything obvious.

Humm - seems the front brake pads are rubbing even when the brakes are off. Any suggestions how to fix this?

Not suprisingly this has also scratched the disc. Just how smooth does this have to be?
