Main Bongo Battery

I have just had my Bongo 4x4 diesel (n reg, with folding roof)) serviced by my local garage and they have done a great job but have replaced my failing main battery with a new replacement of the type specified for a Honda Accord 2.2 diesel. Battery part number is 31500-SEF-E01-HE and it cost £48.

It has a BCI of 800 and a DIN of 470 and states 12V with 77ah

This is different to the one specified on the forum which is type 249 having a 95ah capacity, costing approx £94.

I have the chance to return the battery tomorrow morning before it gets any use but would appreciate it if any of you bongonauts could advise whether this is necessary or not.
ie will this replacement battery serve me ok or will it prove deficient for the Bongo's unique demands set upon it. (FYI I do have a leisure battery installed as well).

Look forward to your expertise.

Many thanks

Alan

It may well be fine buy I allways prefer to have a bigger one as long as the vehicles charging system will charge it.
I would go for the 95AH one, but thats me being over cautious.

I agree. People have got ok with a battery of that rating, but a 95ah is more suitable for a Bongo as the smaller one may sooner or later struggle to maintain a good voltage to the glowplugs while cranking. This is just a personal view.

Hi
the 95 amp is a must
I always go for a 100A with a minimum 680 CCA...current one I bought is 720 CCA...starts almost by thought in any weather!

I would get it replaced with one that you know is definitely suitable. See my post on here for details of the Bosch S4 which I've got http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 48#p539438.

Excellent looking deal on that Bosch there Simon (and I agree with Helen's observations). That is exactly the medication the doctor ordered. Personally I wouldn't consider a 7? Ah rated batery on my Bongo - its a false economy on a campervan (with the remote places it may go to and need to start reliably) that has a chunky clunky diesel engine. I can understand the garage fitting a lower rated one in good faith and because it is cheaper, but I think its the wrong move in this case.

Hi Simon,

I can't get the 'service25' promo to work. The price stays at £99. Any ideas?

I bought a Bosch battery online yesterday using code as advised, received call back advising in stock for local collection. total £74.65 - part no. is S40 029 with correct terminal positioning! According to Bedford Euro Carparts the offer is still likely to run for a while but would hurry if you need a good battery.
