Bongo Fury

Recently I've found that when I get in the bongo to set off in the morning, it is very very very slow moving off and feels like there is no power. Almsot feels like I've still got the handbrake on (which I haven't ) It only lasts for about 5seconds and then it's back to it's normal self. Any ideas of what this could be? Thought it could be the cold weather but apparently it's done it when it wasn't below freezing

Is it a diesel? Is it fine if start it and let it warm up on tickover for a minute or two?

Agree with the above, but still could be the handbrake shoes binding,try leaving it in 'P' with the handbrake off if possible.

its a diesel isnt it cat? what year is it.
think yours is quite a late one with one of them fancy fuel pumps and turbo on it. if it is let julian have a look.

Thanks for the replies Yes Ady its a newer diesel but it's not one with the fancy newer pumps thankfully

I've not used it in the past few days so not sure if it's still happening, if it continues I guess it's best to get Julian to take a look at it

can you describe better whats happening cat, and exactly when.
does it start up ok but wont pull away. or does it struggle to start.
after the initial pause is it ok for the rest of the day when starting/pulling away.

been thinking about your problem a bit more cat,if its just the first start,when warming up, if your starter battery is a bit down(knackered) then the starting and the glow plugs staying on a while may cause the plugs not to heat up enough to warm the engine, then as the revs rise the current pics up and warms them more, then off you go.
suggest you get the battery checked/measured when starting, and the alternator.

But the glowplug relay cuts off whenever any turbo boost is present.

yes, i understand that, but i was thinking of the transition phase of the on off the revs/turbo causing the hesitation etc.
if its ticking over ok when first started , the plugs are lit, than as the revs increase the turbo knocks off the plugs-----no acceleration until the engine warms itself up and off it goes.------------------------ maybe .
then bring in the poss low voltage of a maybe low battery.
cannot think of anything else other than slightly duff plugs.

is she still running her car with diesel/veg oil mix? i know that can cause problems in low temps due to the veg oil thickening

Hi Julian, no we've not put oil in since the summer. However, it's had less use of late with only the occasional trip. Think the OH is going to contact you today and see if we should bring it up on Saturday

I think Chell maybe onto something, a small amount of air being drawn in from a connection downstream of the pump slowly percolating its way up to the pump overnight could cause the problem...........

dont say that for gawd's sake, we've already had one arguement about it, all i need now is for her to be right .
