MOT fail - a little advice needed!

Hi

My Bongo just failed it's MOT on small matters but needs a few parts.

The MOT sheet says;

1. Nearside AND Offside front lower suspension arm ball joint dust covers excessively deteriorated - dirt ingress

2. Nearside and Offside front track rod end ball joint dust covers excessively deteriorated - dirt ingress

3. Some play in N/S front Anti-roll bar

The garage say they can source the parts but they cannot get them at a good price.

I've had a look in the member shop but don't really know what I am looking for!

Please please please, could someone help me in my 'quest' ???

Thank you for reading!

other suppliers including the bongo fury shop on here are available.

some of the cheaper parts are poor and may not last so do your own research on suppliers, you get what you pay for with a heavy bongo to hold up off the ground.

Thanks for the reply!

I guess I need the whole part and not just the dust cover then?

I wish I knew more about this - I'm good with bikes (non-motor) though - least that's something!

Thanks again

Find yourself a local bongo garage and they'll see you right, but as already posted there are some great bongo parts suppliers on here that will give you advice.

Regards

Daz

Hi,

If the joints are OK you can just replace the covers, you should be able to get them on eBay or your local motor factors.

Cheers.

This might help,

Ps if you do need to replace the lower ball joint, ask your mechanic to check the wishbone for soundness(they have a bad habit of corroding)

Cheers..

Only comment would be if that fitting new covers on a bearing that already has either got dirt in, or lost it's grease is just going to hide a problem which will continue to deteriorate. Anyone who remembers the problems with the Austin Allegro whereby the lower ball joing fails & the wheel falls off :!: will know what I mean. Not what you want to happen on your holidays when your whole family is in the back.

Is the anti-roll bar included in the MOT? If my memory isn't completely pickled this came up before.

Simon wasn't the lower ball joint assembly first used on the Morris Minor?
The powers that be must have thought it a good wheeze to use it on the Marina and others...................

Hi,
The Morris Minor used a Trunnion assy,if they were not grease regularly they often drifted apart when the vehicle went over a bump. The wheel ended up looking for a new home.

Happened to me many years ago with a 1959 Riley 1.5 .. (intended as the BMC replacement for the Morris 1000. but they fitted a 1500 cc engine instead) ..

Hit a pothole and the wheel folded underneath ..
