Light for putting key in ignition in the dark.

Hello Folks
I need to fix up a light as in title!
I beleive there is a small hole in the plastic trim on the steering column,(with a blanking off bit in it),near the ignition.
What I would like to know is what type of bulb or LED do I require, and what do I wire it up to?
Any advice is most welcome.
Mick

In the 1997 and later versions its driven from the Sound Warning System module as D1-01;

The wires are Blue/Red for power and White from the module that does the timing. Not sure that the facilities will be available on the earlier versions.

Thanks Geoff
Maybe I could connect to the interior cab light so that it comes on when a door is opened?

If you take the cover off the steering you can get to the bulb. Halfords will see you a replacement (for a price). Unless yours is different to my '99 it comes on when you open the door so why do you need to wire it up? Again unless my '99 is different the interior lights come on depending on the switch position. Maybe yours are in the off position?

OK makes sense. Personally I don't think it would be worth the hassle. I have it on mine but don't feel the need for it. Are the interior lights the same?

stick couple of led panels in the interior lights in place of the bulbs and you would not need this

Fitted this using a spare LED bulb in the light blank when i installed an isolator switch in the cab fuse box for "silent beep camp-site mode" in my 95 tintop a couple of years back.. I just carefully drilled a hole...
Though you can't see it in the pic the LED has a flat top so it sits flush...
I have brilliant white LEDs in the cab light too, but there is still a dark spot cast over the ignition.
I had the bits lying about, so i thought what the hey!!
