One for the central locking techies

Hi folks.
2002 2ltr factory fitted c/l
Central locking problem - in that when i lock it the indicators don't flash but when you unlock it all 4 flash, this has been like it ever since I've owned it(2years) and hasn't really bothered me,but something else has cropped up - in that when you unlock it now sometimes it automatically locks its self after about 20 seconds. I'm guessing it's some kind of relay problem? Do you think these are 2 separate problems? Or one of the same. Is this a DIY fix or will I have to take it to a garage?
All help appreciated.
Thanx in advance Gray.

hi when you press the remote & the doors unlock if you then open the drivers door & close it again does the central locking still lock all the doors again?

I have a VW T5. If the doors are unlocked and then not opened within about 20 sec. it automatically locks them again in case it has been unlocked by mistake. Possibly the same on your Bongo.

Can't comment on the first question as my Bongo is tucked up in bed at the moment

, but with regard to it locking if you don't open a door within a short period of time, that is the correct behaviour.
What you may find is that it locks again even though you have opened a door, and that would suggest the switch is not working or the interior light has failed or is switched off.

passats are worst ! you can press the remote to unlock but if you open the boot (not a door) then put your keys in the boot not realising then close the boot you discover the central locking has relocked and you cant open the boot to get your keys

Thanks for all your replies.
Chris the answer to your question is no!
It does lock automatically if you unlock it and don't open a door, but seems to lock itself when the side door is opened after about 30 seconds.

It sound similar to my locking system, when I disarm, all the doors unlock, if I then open the back or side doors without opening one of the front doors then it rearms itself after 20 seconds, I have to open one of the front doors temporarily to stop the alarm rearming, then I can use the side door.

With regard to the indicators, I think it flashes twice when unlocked and one long one when locked (or the other way round!).
