Can anyone tell me what the diagnostic socket is on a 2001 diesel Bongo please.

Is it a standard OBD2 or something else?

I simply do not know if the later versions differ from the older ones, but these links relevant to the older vehicles may help - equally, they may not.

You would need to look to see which connector you have and which pins are actually wired. The OBD2 standard speciies a J1962 connector and reserves a number of pins for the manufacturers use, several Japanese manufacturers use those pins for proprietary links. OBD2 wasn't mandated in Japan until 2007, I do have a scan tool that should talk to a non-OBD2 Mazda with the 17-pin socket but I have a diesel which doesn't have a data link so I've never tried it.

OK thanks for the info.

This obviously won't work on a Bongo then.

Well its not OBD2 but I thought the petrol models did have an OBD serial port on that connector. Its certainly the same connector used on other Mazda OBD1 models like the RX7 and thats the mating half for the connector that comes with my Scan Tool (Vetronix Mastertech MTS3100). Its a while since I worked on a Mazda ECU the serial link is called TEN or FEN or something like that.

This is from a Japanese RX7 site, this protocol has been used on a good few Mazdas
Communication I / F
インターフェース電圧は Hi: +10.8V~バッテリー電圧、Low: 0Vで、半二重976bps、8ビット、ストップビット1である。 The interface voltage Hi: +10.8 V ~ battery voltage, Low: at 0V, 976bps duplex, 8 bits, 1 stop bit is.
TEN端子に20Hzデューティー50%の矩形波を入力すると、FEN端子から ECU IDが出力される。 If you enter a 20Hz square wave 50% duty terminal TEN, ECU ID is output from the terminal FEN. その後、FEN端子上での調歩同期半二重通信を行う。 Thereafter, the terminal half-duplex asynchronous on FEN
or you just plug in a pro scan tool.
