pick your brains please

hi peeps
whilst changing my glowplugs yesterday i noticed one of the pipes on top of the gizmo thingy had been previously snapped and superglued back on ,i know this because when i took the 2 bolts out to move it it came adrift ,so i glued it back on until i can find another gizmo thingy to replace it ,question 1 are these pipes important or are they just breathers etc ??????
then i noticed on top there is 3 plugs next to the pipes and on 1 of the plugs the 2 wires are out or snapped so question 2 does anyone know what the 3 plugs do ??????
