Well after successfully replacing two batteries for the one, I was pleased to notice the lights were brighter! But now after a 500 mile journey they have both gone out( Low beam only). All else seems to be fine But high beam is better too. IS this a time bomb.
any idea where the fuse is ??
thanks

You don't say which vehicle your driving or at least the age/year as the wiring and switches change, however there isn't a separate fuse for High/Low its the same fuse here are the two diagrams you need;
1995-1997

1997-1999

Hover your mouse over the
Green fuses and a picture will pop-up
Either both lamps have failed (one might have failed previously) or the switch has failed (less likely).

Thanks Geoff. It's s reg so 97 i think.
You don't think the extra brightness could be summat ?
Nb the horn has already been replaced with a switch, as the bit behind the air bag costs about £100 so I've been told.

No the extra brightness will only have been because of poor battery connections if that's when they improved, but the lamps don't last for ever and may well have been at the end of there lives and the extra (normal) voltage may have just caused them blow at similar times - lamp life is highly dependent on temperature and a reduction in voltage will extend life dramatically at the cost of brightness of course!
There might be a small chance that the alternator regulation has failed and might be putting out a higher than normal voltage but its not the first thing I would suspect - if you have a voltmeter then its easily checked.

Thanks again. Tonights the night. I'll check the alternator too. That's about 13.8 volts I should be getting across.
Once again thank you..

The voltage across the battery with the engine off should be around 12.6Volts, with the engine on and idling then about 13.8+ Volts, with the engine at about 1500 revs then about 14.6 volts max. it shouldn't exceed that under any conditions.
