Need New Engine Supplied and Fitted in 2.0 Petrol S Reg/1998

Post by Woody Fisher » Wed Nov 09, 2011 1:08 pm

Hi,

I've had a nightmare with my Bongo :( Earlier this year it started making a blowing / slight knocking sound which we thought was the exhaust manifold leaking, but a couple of days later the flywheel sheared off on the M27, which suggests new engine time...?

I found a man on ebay who took the car away on a trailer and said he would fix it, but four months later I am now having to pay to have the vehicle recovered back from him as he has done nothing with it other than ask for more time and offer excuse after excuse.

So I would like to know if anyone can recommend a trustworthy place where I can have my Bongo recovered to that will source and fit a new engine for me? Otherwise I think it is going to be expensive scrap

Any help appreciated.

Hi
I think this outfit supply / fit:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-F ... 2902wt_952
They will freight the item to your favourite Bongo garage, if you know where there is a REAL expert
Cheers

Just a quick question - how was it diagnosed? :)

i know where there is a non running, complete bongo, tidy 2 ltr with a detatched con rod if thats any good to build one out of 2.
if you eventually pull the engine to bits and find its something else this may be worth a punt.
i would be interested to hear what the problem is found to be if you dont mind.
pm me if you need the contact details for the 2ltr for sale.

Hi,

Not sure if this might help and I havent done a search on the forum - but my local scrapper has just had in a ~99 Mazda 626 petrol - I think its a 2L - though I'm not sure if its the same engine as in the Bongo. Scrapyard is in Wantage but I'm happy to go along and enquire for you if it looks like the engine is suitable/or any other parts.

Hope this helps,

Steve

there are a couple of places on e bay that supply and fit for around £950.00, I phoned one to ask and the chap was really helpful, comes with a 3 month warranty, based in london. They said they do free local pick up and quoted me 200 quid to collect it from wales which is not a bad price I suppose.

On another Forum I use there have been several major issues / problems / warning posted up regarding certain London 'rogue dealers' .. 'specialising' .. in Japanese imports.

Maybe better to go on recommendations .. rather than the 'power' of advertising .. ??

maybe put the dealers name in Google and see what comes up ...

Speak to Simon, couldn't be more helpful. Not cheap but very good job I'd avoid the e-bay people.......no reputation, no come back.....
