Bongo Fury

hi all i cant get my bongo to start , all was fine until yesterday morning when i couldn't start it , it didn't even fire once and i ended up with a flat battery , so after charging over night i refitted it this morning , i checked the voltage to the glow plugs with multi meter @ 12.45 volts but not firing then remembered i had a new fuel filter , so i fitted that and tried again this time it started for about 10 seconds then died and wouldn't fire again , so i am waiting for the battery to recharge again , i have just found out where the banjo filter is so will check that first , any ideas ? also is it possible to undo one of the pipes to the injectors to see if fuel spurts out when cranking it over ? does the fuel system need bleeding after a filter change ?

System is self-bleeding, but will take a while to get fuel through unless you filled the new filter with fuel first. I've never tried, but I don't see why you can't slightly undo an injector pipe to check fuel supply.

just crack them a tad and get ready to chuck a cloth on them in turn or may may cover the insides of your bongo with fuel.do one to start as this should purge the pump.
in the centre where the pipes come out there is a bleed nut, (if you can undo it) that may help.
i would check the filter/seal is fitted correctly too.

The voltage to the heater rail sounds a bit high considering the drain of the heaters,it would probably be worthwhile checking the plugs.

hi sorted now , fitted new fuel and air filters , that got it started on Sunday but still a bit sluggish next morning so fitted new glow plugs , good as new now , so that's 3 sets of glow plugs in two and a half years is this usual ?

Nice one - good job.

I've not had to replace mine yet, so I don't really know. Perhaps the last 2 cold winters have taken their toll...?

I would think its a bit unusual, ive only had one set in five years, and they probably didn't need replacing , I did use top quality ones NGK I think not cheepo ones off ebay.

The voltage to the heater rail was a wee bit of a giveaway,if the plugs are not lasting as they should,it might be worthwhile checking that the supply to the rail is switching off, as it should when engine is running.

This depends on engine temperature an rpm.

hi , the new plugs are ngk so hopefully will last ok , old ones were fitted by wheelquick, i dont know what make they were , the power to the rail seemed to be switching of when i checked it the other day , but i will check it again and make a note of the voltage now the plugs are working thanks for the tips guys
