The ECU controls the glow plugs, rad/scav fans and little else. In particular, the fuel pump is mechanically driven. I'm not sure exactly what control the ECU exerts over the AT.

What's your fuel consumption like? Anything from 24-30 mpg is probably quite normal.

Anything from 22-30 mpg is probably quite normal. ;) Have you got a conversion?

Plenty on here re: improving consumption if you search a bit. Tyre pressure is a simple one. Do you know when the last ATF change was?

was reading a trade mag on light commercial vehicles today, it was headed getting more out for less in.
it stated that 20% of a vehicles fuel costs can be saved with low drag tyres.
the article was written by a spokes person of a major tyre company though #-o . but it does sort of back up what ive found. i run on commercial vehicle tyres on my 4x4 manual bongo, inflated to 50 psi. and get quite good economy from these.

The ECU controls all the AT shift points and the lock up. It can't be reprogrammed easily and as stated earlier doesn't control the injection anyway.
