Can anyone tell me how to remove the cubby box in the bottom half of the double DIN radio console?

If you remove the side covers underneath it which are held on by plastic rivet things IIRR there is a metal bracket or brackets that it is fixed to right behind it. I haven't had mine out but I had a look behind before drilling a hole for my temp alarm cable.

In that case the bracket probably supports the centre of the dashboard via the cubby box shell.

I want to remove it to replace it with a BMW clock/cubby so I'm not too worried about damaging it - though I might be if I can't get the clock to fit!

You may need to make up some bracketry to support the dash. It is a few months since I had my head under there but thinking back I think the box is a structural part of the das hand bolted to a bracket on the tunnel under the heater.

I could be wrong, someone will soon be along who knows more.

I am a bit confused here. I have had my cubby box out many times without any dificulty. I just remove the glove box and then press the cubby box sideways and forwards at the same time. It just pops out` -no screws, scrivets or anything else holding it. However, if you are referring to the cubby box down by the gear lever then thats a different matter altogether.

It's just the DIN sized box below the radio I'm referring to. For clarification, there are two DIN alcoves, the top one of mine has a single DIN aftermarket radio fitted, and immediately below it is a recessed box/cubby - that's the one I want to remove.
Bet you can guess the next question! How do you remove the glovebox? :)

you can get at the cubbybox without actually removing the glove box. Just open the glove box and you can get your arm in there OK...
The glove box isnt difficult to remove -there are some plastic lugs on the side of the box and you just have to press the box hard to one side and get the lugs to clear -have a look and you will see what I mean.
