V6 2.5 litre J5-DE engine was an option for 929's, 1990-1994

Thought until now that the only Mazda 929 V6 option had been the 3.0 litre JE engine, as shown at
http://929.sentia.ru/english.htm.
However, have just noticed that Wikipedia, at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_J_engine#J5 and at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_929, shows the Bongo's J5-DE 2.5 litre V6 as previously also available as the base level Mazda 929 engine option from 1990-1994 (the Efini MS-9 also mentioned in the second of those sites was simply a re-branded 929).
That 929 2.5 litre V6 engine option is born out at several other websites, including a Turkish guy trying to re-engine his Wankel-engined MX-7 with a 2.5 litre J5-DE taken from an Efini MS-9, so Wikipedia seems to have its facts right.
Anybody in Oz, NZ or Canada, where 929s were sold, know if there's therefore still a source for an English language 2.5 litre J5-DE workshop manual in any of those countries?
If not, do you have a contact in Mazda, Hiroshima. who could perhaps run one down, Ian?
A reference copy held by the club, would be an advance on the existing NZ translated workshop manual, with its many omissions, and not a few translation errors - I'm not knocking it though, it's a whole lot better than no manual. Better still, if you could get rights to reprint for sale here!

Should have also included the US - more export 929s sold there. Do we have any readers there?

Found this on Ebay Australia. Is this what you are looking for?

Thanks for that quick down under to up over, bongomike. Unfortunately, it isn't though - the 3.0 litre JE engine there is the one we've already got workshop manual access to at
http://929.sentia.ru/english.htm.
Judging by the blurb there, what's really needed is a supplement specifically covering the J5-DE 2.5 litres V6 - although, to be honest, a trawl through used 929s currently offered in Oz, doesn't yet confirm that the 2.5 litres V6 variant was actually sold there. It was clearly exported though, witness the Turkish example, so I'll assume it was sold down under until proved otherwise.
Will search other relevant global eBays in the next day or so, and confirm here whether or not I track one down. Would also hope to locate a used copy, if possible. That brand new Oz dealer's copy is a bit pricey and, by the time they've added the large cost of shipment quoted to send to the UK, very pricey.

Hey Mike, that's a generous offer, thanks. I'll let you know if I find one meanwhile but otherwise if one turns up in Oz, then April/May would be fine. We all cope meanwhile, with the aid of the few garages who really know the V6, but I would like my own copy of the genuine article, and even a single copy here could be a useful ref source for all us V6 jockeys. Cheers, David aka Ron.

Other than the JPNZ 2-volume manual, the only other printed version that I am aware of is the Chilton guide which was published in the US in 1995. It claims to cover all versions of Mazdas 323, 626, 929, GLC, MX6 & MX7. But on closer inspection it only covers the 3.0 litre version.
This guide is still in print, ISBN 0-8019-8581-1 and I have a copy here at Mission Control.

The Australian JE engine 3.0 litre V6 929 manual was published by Mazda Australia, under code 12601091E, in 1991, four years before the Chilton manual was published in 1995, in the US.
By 1995 the J5-DE engine 2.5 litre V6 929 had been out of production for a year.
The Australian manual says that supplements were available for other variants (without specifying them), so I'm now looking for a possible J5-DE supplement somewhere, unless and until firm evidence arises to say that the 2.5 litre V6 929 did not reach any English language market. No luck at the moment but I'll keep looking.

Apologies for delay replying, Been travelling. Thanks for the further inputs but unfortunately no, all V6 refs are to the larger 3 litre JE engine. Have posted questions on their websites to ask if they know of the existence in Oz of any manual or supplement covering the 2.5 litre J5-DE. Cheers, David aka "Ron"

Had a reply from "The Motor Traders' Network" - no trace of J5-DE engine use in Australia. Oh well, so much for that bright idea! Thanks for the inputs though, Mike. Will search elsewhere when I get time, although simple Google searches have so far shown no refs to J5-DE/929 sales in English language countries. Perhaps we now know why there's a V6 Bongo Friendee variant - stocks of J5-DEs built for 929s but unsold at the end of 1994, when they dropped that variant from the 929 range?
