the seat runner topic

Well this should be treated as an
update and warning to anyone about to venture into changing seats around (my vehicle is a 2000 year) .
Cant remember which fact sheet guide explained the removal of the seat tracks which is pretty straight forward till you get to the bit where the guide says you remove six 14mm bolts to release the track.... well I dont know how old the Bongo was that the author was referring to but six bolts it ani't its twevle and the tracks run from back to front, the 'warning bit' is sort out your seat configuration BEFORE you do the conversion, in my case I had and modified a rear across conversion and eventualy decided to fit the rear seat in place of the middle seat to face the rear, thats when the problem's started, how do I remove the seat runners from the floor tracks without taking all the rear conversion out ......well the answer is, you have to cut the seat tracks in half making sure that the cut is near where the track bolts to the floor, you can drill the track end and fit a bolt to act as a stop...... thats about it for now, got to go and swap the runners around, still not sure at this stage if I have to swap from side to side the floor tracks.........................

Check the fact sheet again - I suspect it was referring to the short rails - not the long ones?
A certain amount of common sense is always useful when tackling such things, different people have different conversions etc.

I have, 'Reversing long runners/ reversing Middle seat' is really all about modifiying runners to make universal runners...... excellent topic, but Im not Clark Kent.
'Short Runners/ reversing the Middle seat'........both topics relate to
reversing the middle seat not the rear... my point is, to make the best bed out of one of the seats ...why would anyone want a split seat ( hinge mechanisam sticking up in the middle of your sleeping comfort) secondly, reversing the
middle seat to face the rear makes this seat's split seat arragement redundant and to be perdantic I would op' for knowledge/ experience over common sense anytime, Is'nt that what these forums are about?..I have never found an article in the forums that refers to configuring your seating arrangement before you put in a conversion... if you care to read my post again you might pick up on my point that Im using the rear seat not the middle and Im turning it around facing the rear
Without removing the rear conversion.
thanks for you input.

Not being pedantic,

You can reverse the middle seat on the short runners/track, the back seats are flip up and are not on runners

, and only six bolts holding the short runners.
But like you said difficult to do with a conversion, the long runners /track do have 12 bolts.
I would not like to have cut the track insitu.

Sorry you have lost me! What's the year of your bongo? when I collected my vehicle from the rear conversion people they had turned the middle seat around facing the rear and it was adjustable on the runners, my back seat is a full bench seat with the back rest able to fold down to a 'closed position and they to were adjustable on runners.

the Bongos with short runners have gullwing flip up seats in the rear unless they are modified long rails to make them shorter (cut)
By what you say, you should be able to remove the middle seat leaving the runners in the rails, by 4 bolts and replace it with the rear seat

Did'nt mazda stop making the gull wing seat configuration in 1998? Sorry but your comments bear no realionship to my original topic, your talking about a earlier model Bongo.
Anyway, just finished the seat configuration works fine, the tracks are the same locking configuration each side but the runners are not, to get the rear seat to be fully adjustable facing backwards you have to swap the runners over... hence my original post questioning what to do if the tracks disappear under the rear conversion... over and out

(Please read this, imaginging it in an adenoidal voice!) It seems that Mazda still were making some Bongos will gull wing seats much later than 1998, so your 'no relationship' comment is slightly incorrect.
Glad you have found a solution which works for you!

It was you who mentioned that the runners had 12 and not 6 bolts. in your original post, which gave the impression that you read the fact sheets about the short runners (6 bolts)
The gull wing seats were fitted as an optional extra far later than 1998.

Thanks for your input, first of all I could'nt care less about gull wing seats, my topic was not about an earlier model bongo with gull wing seats, who do you know that has a 2000 year bongo that has gull wing seats? you guys seam to be picking holes into my topic which was the removal of seat runners from tracks in a 2000 year bongo that has a rear conversion fitted and yes I did read both fact sheets and there is no mention regarding what I attempted to do and succeeded in doing, I can only conclude that you must have done this work sometime ago yourself?

Not picking holes in your post

you said the runners have 12 bolts not 6 which was a bit inaccurate, other people reading the post will be wondering why the difference in the number of bolts, that's all I'm trying to say.
What you have done to the runners successfully is brilliant regarding your conversion, but you have also got to remember that there are a lot of different conversions, some conversions cover the runners, some have the runners cut to fit so they are not under the conversion., mine has the short runners

.
You stated you built or had the conversion built for you then wanted to change the seating arrangement, not easy to do with the runners going under your conversion, like i said in an earlier post your braver than me cutting the runners whilst in place. Glad you sorted it.
I suppose what your saying is, make sure you make your mind up what seating configuration you want and live with it before having a conversion built, then you dont have to do what you did and fix it later.
Enjoy your bongo and your conversion, happy camping and ya never know one day, we might meet up.
