We've got the 2" one from the shop here and are quite happy with it. We keep it in the roof all the time.

First off....remove the "hinge pins" from the hatch....this will mean you can slide it out of the way and getting up/down will be much better.
Buy a 3 inch memory foam topper and cut it to roof size....then cut it so the front and "thin" sides are one piece (a sort of U shape)....the bit over the hatch is a 2nd peice and the back a 3rd piece........we covered ours and it worked very well and was comfortable.......we left a duvet up there and no problems with the roof closing.

We got that one as well - the covering is very robust but slightly oversize so a bit loose, but it is very comfortable compared to the skinny original and we are very pleased with it.

I purchased a memory foam topper from ebay, cut it up and crammed it into the original mattress cover. Very pleased with the result!
