Bongo Fury

Hi guys
My bong has started to overheat I think it may be a circulation problem as there is a lot of crud in pipes and when it starts to boil the temperature goes back to normal (I’m thinking the boiling clears the blockage) also once the temp drops I can go for hours on the motorway with no problems until I slow down. Has anyone come across a parts pack for changing all the water pipes and can you have the rads cleaned? Also if any one has any other suggestions what the problem may be that would be a great help.

sounds like you have air getting in the system
you need a professional to check it over and do a pressure check etc
At the very least you need a coolant change and good flush through probably a new rad as the can't be resealed

I would not drive until its sorted or you could do some real damage

Sorry to hear of your problems.

My experiences suggest that a blockage is most likely to be in the radiator. This is fairly easy to check.
First, remove the radiator. There is an excellent factsheet to show how this should be done.
The only minor issue is that you must block the two pipes from the gearbox with bolts or drillbits of 10mm Diameter. The existing pressure clips can be use.

Once out, put the radiator cap on and lay the radiator on its face with the two pipes to/from the engine uppermost.
Fill the radiator with boiling water from a kettle using the top pipe hole, then feel the back face of the radiator. If it is evenly hot then the radiator is OK.
If large areas of the radiator remain cold then it is blocked. It is also likely that the the water will not rise up the lower pipe to the level in the top pipe.

If faulty, purchase and fit a new radiator after flushing out the engine with a garden hose.

Hi thanks guys that’s good advice , I think I will check the rad, I have just spent £1200 having a broken stud replaced and head gasket so could do with having a go myself.

If its under warrenty take it back as this could be why the air is getting in.

A blocked rad could be why your gasket went in the first place and may even have cracked the head.

I would talk the the garage that did the gasket before doing any other work as they could claim anything you do will void any warrenty they put on their work.

Also If it was recent they should have changed the coolant and noticed if it was sludged up

Guys thanks for your advice, unfortunately I am going to have to call on your help again, so my lovly Bongo is still in the garge, so far as well as all the above things being done I have had the Thermostat replaced again and now the radiator replaced plus they have been bleeding the system for two hours without success’s.

I am now being told that it will have to be stripped down again for the head to be pressure tested, but I may as well fit a reconditioned engine, I have already spent about 2K

Is there any bongo experts in my area that I can take it to to confirm that I am not being ripped off, or has anyone had similar problems, I have to say I’m not sure that it is worth having repaired, may be my bongoing days are over 
