S/S Exhaust

Post by kloonsy » Thu Aug 25, 2011 10:41 pm

The old girls going to be ready for an exhaust soon, considering a stainless steel one. Who has fitted one and are they a lot louder than mild steel as my bongo has always been very noisey at idle, and wanting to quieten her down a bit

Had mine on for about a year now, cant say I've noticed any noise difference at idle, but it is a bit noisier than standard when going up through the gears then quietens again at constant speed.

In my individual and humble opinion*, the noise you hear at idle is unlikely to be exhaust noise and therefore unlikely to be affected by any particular type of exhaust.

I bought a complete stainless steel zorst from MIJ exhausts, (they advertise on ebay). I had the system delivered to my house and i fitted it myself, very straight forward, they hardest bit was removing the old one.
Their ad quotes:-
"Specialists in CUSTOM BUILT exhausts, SPORT, MID-SPORT or QUIET setups, and DIRECT FIT systems. We also offer catalytic converters, downpipes, de-cat pipes, we can meet your individual requirements. Large range of silencers, back boxes, flexis, flanges, mounts. Call us 01922 645646/07817 538 458."

I paid £260 ish for mine delivered and i am extremeley pleased with the build quality and the difference it has made to the Bongo, it sounds quieter but has a much smoother and richer burble than before.

Give them a call and tell them what you want, mine took 3 days from the initial call to delivery.

Yup - had a custom one made at Long Life exhausts - it is quite noisy but I love it. Was about £300

Don't forget to tell your insurance company as they may class it as a modification :( :

MIJ all the way, ours was about £230.00 + VAT fitted, really pleased with it. I think the low price may be something to do with the fact that there's not much to the silencer  :D

I just got back from Midlands Exhausts in Birmingham, nice shiny stainless system fitted, they charge £210 for these through eBay. It does semm a little sportier accelerating through the gears but does seem any noisier off load. The turbo seems to spool up quicker too but I could be imagining that.
I got held up in bank holiday traffic and arrived late, the guys there stayed on till 7pm fitting my system =D>
