Bongo Fury

Just had my Bongo serviced with Adrian at Japan Direct in Bury on saturday morning, great guy, he did a full oil and filters change, replaced my Split Charge relay and LB as it wasnt working, cleaned and checked the brakes and topped up all the fluids all for a very resonable price

He also gave it a full check over and said it was in very good nick considering the price I had paid for it and what work had been done by the previous owner.

He was going to check the thermostat too as he doesnt think it has one fitted, but noticed that one of the rear hoses to the rear heater was leaking, looks like the metal pipe its connected to has corroded so he needs to have an extened hose made and cut the metal pipe back then check the thermostat at the same time so its back in on Wed next week.

then hopefully off to the lakes on Thursday for Solfest

No I typed in that "Its not registering as there is no thermostat in at the mo" but for some reason it isnt there ?

& not the temp sender from the engine to the Mazda temp gauge??? Sorry Tony i've heard these sender/probes referred to as a "thermostat"!

Thats the very part, def the thermostat.

Adrian at Japan Direct suspects the thermostat has been removed due to my Bongos past overheating history and then never replaced so while he is changing a hose or two next week he will check and replace it then.

Its something I would normally do myself but until I have seen the collant system bled correctly myself I dont want to do it....its scary !

A ha...!! Sorry to harp on.. Just wanted to find out what part was missing..

Could be a correlation with your temperature gauge reading?? (Though it's well established they are useless anyway if not modded.)

Some techies may come along & explain that (as useless as the gauge is) may be a clue to establishing if the stats been removed to cover something up???

My bongo had a history of overheating before I bought it, the guy I bough tit off was very honest and had even sold it before I bought it and refunded the other buyers money because of overheating ! He then proceeded to have it repaired in stages of - flush and replace coolent, remove thermostat, replace rad, replace Head, so I suspect the thermostat was never replaced after this.

Connected my digital gauge up last night and got it to read approx 54 deg C while driving round town and then 62 Deg C while stationary for 10 mins on the drive, the probe is connected to the first metal pipe from the top hose under the bonnet, spent 45 mins trying to get a jubilee clip round the pipe under the drivers seat and then gave up after shouting a bit

Though i developed a knack, & even with small hands.. Exhaling expletives does help the procedure...

When you have the stat fitted, keep an eye on the temperature and let us know. Not sure which steel pipe you are on about. A pic would be nice.

Nice use of fuel or vacuum hose as conduit...

it was actually off my GSXR750 that i recently broke, just didnt fancy the bell wire floating around under the bonnet !

I never throw anything away you just never know when it will com in handy, hence why my garage is full of bike and car bits !

Hi I am doing the same job as you can you tell me where you routed the cable and sender unit.IE through a grommet or drilled through bulkhead etc.
