I thought my beloved bongo was losing oil from the crankshaft oilseal but after a very helpful phonecall to the very nice people at bellhill i can confirm that the oil is coming from somewhere highr up on the front drivers side of the engine but i'm not sure where exactly, yesterday i removed the undertray took the bongo and my car ramps to the local jetwash, once she was up on the ramps i cleaned the engine with a spray bottle filled with brake and clutch cleaner starting underneath and then under the seats. I left it parked last night outide my house without undertray and a clean sheet of cardboard underneath as per bellhills instructions and she's defo loosing about a desert spoon of oil while she's parked up but i just cant make out where its leaking from, i had it up on the ramp again tonight and can't see anywhere that its running down the engine the only oil drip i could see was on the gear selector cable where it passes under the corner of the engine.

I have checked all the inlet manifold bolts for tightness as per B/H instruction and i did get half a turn on the rocker cover bolts so i'll just have to continue the search.

Are there any places that the bongo is common for oil seepage ?

Thanx, Pete.

Are you sure it's engine oil? Have you been having to top it up regularly? Could it be diesel or steering fluid? Is the drip/loss looking bigger because it's spreading out on the cardboard?- a little bit of oil can look like a lot when it spreads out.
Could it be gunk (from egr and/or crankcase breather feeding oil into the air inlet pipework) dripping from the air inlet manifold?

Its defo black oil, not diesel as its to thick and i've already cured that leak, not steering fluid either as that level never moves.

But are you having to top up the engine oil regularly? A desert spoon overnight, therefore @ 2 a day, is gona add up to about half a litre every 4 weeks?
(desertspoon = 10ml x 2 x 7 = 140ml per week x 4 = 560ml every 4 weeks) Yeah - I'm THAT bored

Yes i do top up 200ml every 2 to 3 weeks but since giving all the rocker cover bolts half a turn each the leak seems to be seriously reduced, just a couple of spots on the cardboard s,morning so i'll be monitoring it daily to see if i have stemmed the flow [-o<

We've had a weep from the rocker cover.... (really it's a cam cover on a modern engine!) but seemed to be a bit worse recently. So after some helpful advice from this forum I nipped up the bolts. I used my trusty Halfords torque wrench and did each to 8 nm.... which is bicycle torque territory ! It was interesting that about half of the bolts needed a turn and moved a fair bit before the wrench clicked. Lets see what happens.
