Going to lake district end of July for just over a week. Got the campsites booked but as this is our first time going hoping for some tips, e.g must do', good drives, drives to avoid etc.
4 of us going kids 11 and 8 and taking the bikes.

Cheers all!

Depends whereabouts you are in the Lakes, that’s a pretty big area to cover. But you should try to get to see good views of Scafell Pike, best vantage point is from the west shore of Wast Water....

....and you can get good views too from the Hardknott Roman Fort on the Hardknott Pass. This of course gives you the excuse to do the Hardknott & Wrynose passes, a good test for your gearbox, and your passengers' nerves

If you’re into mountain passes, the Kirkstone pass is worth going for, at least in July you shouldn't encounter any snow, although there was snow on Snowdon the other day :?

While you’re in the Lakes you should go to the only ‘lake’ in the Lake District....

Bassenthwaite Lake

And in Ambleside you should go to the famous Bridge House which most people drive straight past without noticing....

Have fun, there’s a lot of places to see there

Baz!! - They might be a decent respectable family for all we know

You could take the Bongo on a trip across Windermere though, from Bowness to Hawkshead

The Lake District is fab, we go at least twice a year and have just come back from a week in Coniston :D If you want a nice spot to watch the sun go down, drive up out of Coniston on the Walna Scar road. Keep going till you get to the fell gate, open it to go through and park up in the little parking area. You won't be alone but it's a fab spot to chill out with views over Coniston Water and the fells. Lots of wild campers use this area too.

I also recommend the newly-refurbished Bluebird cafe on the shore of Coniston, it's now open in the evenings as well as the daytime and the food is gorgeous.

I've driven over the Kirkstone Pass in my Bongo, but I'm too scared to do the Hardknott & Wrynose!

PM me if you want any more details, walks etc!

Thanks for responses and some great pictures. Will have to make some notes.
To answer a couple of questions, I believ I may have some budgie smugglers somewhere but seriously doubt that they fit anymore, well i am 40 now!

Fancy doing the pass but have to see if brave enough to give coolant system a workout. Hose went recently but thanks to Haydn at the bash now have the lca fitted so gives some peace of mind.
