3G Internet in France

Not sure if this will be of use to anyone, but if you can't bare to be away from the internet for too long, like me, I found a handy tip.

You can pick up an Orange PAYG SIM called Mobicarte in France from Orange shops. You can then activate unlimited Internet access for 1 month for 9 Euros.

We found there was pretty good coverage pretty much everywhere we went. Used a mobile phone with the SIM as a wifi hotspot for about 2-3 weeks almost everyday.

Instructions are on this Wiki:

I've also got a SIM which will expire in about 1 months time, so if anyone wants to give this a crack and is going soon, they are welcome to the SIM.

Thanks for the tip - I've been trying to track down something like this for a reasonable price. I'll check it out :)

At bike races we use a 3G internet dongle with a 50cm magmount antenna on the roof to boost the signal. The wifi hotspot has its own battery backup but trickle charges through the leisure battery and solar panels.

No idea I am afraid.

Although I know you can trim down a normal SIM to work as a Micro SIM.

Alternatively, If you have a smartphone that lets you create a personal wifi hotspot (e.g. Android), then you could just connect your iPad to that.
