Seeing as no one has responded to this post in the tech section I thought I would ask on Jon's behalf down here in our section. Jon needs to find someone to replace the solenoid pack/have a better look at his gearbox - anyone advise on a garage/specialist who could do this job?? Anyone has similar issues?

Ta.
I've been having intermittent problems with my autogearbox not going into 4th gear. Fault codes i'm getting are 16 and 62. EGR position sensor and Overrunning clutch solenoid.

Today i took it to a Autogearbox specialist in Pontypridd. He took it for a spin and couldn't find anything wrong, which i new as i's explained it was an intermittent fault. He seemed reluctant to change the solenoid pack because of this code 16 i keep getting. Any advice on what's causing this code 16? Or will just changing the solenoid pack solve the problems. There is another gearbox specialist fairy local i might go to and see if they can shed any light on it. It's Diesel 4wd 1996.

is the fault showing itself more when cold, rather than fully warmed up. or vise versa ?
not an expert but as i understand things the egr doesnt come into action untill its warmed up,is the 16 fault code trying to tell you that the egr valve, or its controlling solenoids on the top rail are failing, or vac pipe split/leaking, so its telling the ecu its not warm yet etc. also may be an idea to replace the fan switch, as this tells the ecu what temp the engine is at.
as i said, not an expert, just trying to think around the problem.

Thanks Mike.

It does it when warm, usually after about 45minutes of driving and sometimes not at all. I've come across a company that has just moved from Cardiff to Bridgend that will take a look next week for me.
