Any one ever converted there back door into normal van doors?.
I have searched but cant find anything.
If they have i would be glad of info.

Never heard of it being done. But why would you want to when the lifting one provides a perfect rain cover when raised?

You are right about the door , its very handy for sheltering from the rain.

The door modifications wouldn't be rocket science.. but the rear window would be, and so would the new hinge locations!

I saw a nice looking Hyundai I 800 yesterday with 2 side windows and twin (glazed) rear doors.

They can also look smart on VWs and Vitos. Not sure that Bongos would really look right.

I'd go along with the rain shelter theory to some extent but in some circumstances I've wished that partial opening was an option. Like when there's a howling gale on a campsite and the entire rear contents want to blow away.

A builder friend told me that twins were better for backing up close to load/unload and for those occasions when planks etc were too long to go inside.

No doubt a dab hand with Photoshop etc. could come up with a twin door Bongo (with external hinges and not 1/3 splits please, they look awful, especially French handed with the big door on the nearside).

What about modifying it so the rear window opens? Reckon that wouldn't be too complex. Depends what your reasons for wanting doors, rather than a tailgate are?

Just leave the effing thing alone, focus on the +ve, get out there and get a life

I like a side-opener from preference, as with animals, you have to raise a door quite a considerable amount before you can grab your pooch's collar, and with such a gap, they escape easily. With my last "top-opener", I had a rear inner mesh screen made, with a side-opening door....and with a side-opener, you can sneak a hand round and "grab" easily ...but I wouldn't go to the extent of modding the Bongo. Another reason I don't like them over here, is that if you are loading up in a car-park at the supermart, then a driver of another van could take the door off if they get close.....drivers here are stupid, and lack skill and concentration, in addition to being permanently glued to a mobile phone

Twin doors also allow a forklift to load via the rear doors.

Why do you want to do this, and the assembled 'knowledge' might find an alternative method.

I have one with a single rear door side opening with an inner fly screen door as well

I've got a pukka tailgate flyscreen. Rare as hen's......flyscreens

has a pair of flyscreens for the front windows too...
