Bongo Fury

My longterm overheating problem has returned - with associated coolant loss. I've ordered a low coolant alarm from the bongo shop, but I would like to get hold of some of Haydn Callow's excellent dye that can be used to find the leak (been here before, you see). So Haydn . . . are you out there? HELP !!!!!!!

Sorry....I'm afraid that because of the previous problems encountered when I obtained a bulk supply and passed this on to members in "one shot" amounts at cost or even below cost price. I decided that I could do without the hassel from some "other" members who considered it selling on the forum.
I have 2 "shots" left and I am keeping those for my own future use,

but I think it's a real shame that Hayden Feel's he can't help us out.

Those that stand by the sides and shout about selling should think before posting. about all the stuff hayden has done for us and bongo's.

Think exception should be made. Hayden is a first rate bloke. Alway's thinking of others.

If he makes a few £ for all the trouble and time he has taken to develop his idea's and help us all is that too much?

His alarm, temp alarm, coolent clamps and his dye all stuff which help's members and their bongo.

Hip hip hooray to hayden and his stuff his idea's and his advice.

I for one think this forum and bongo's will be poorer if hayden can't help us keep our bongo's running

I agree with you 100% there Dave. Enterprise should be allowed to reap it's just reward, and we have all benefited enormously from Haydn's enterprise in getting the LCA going for Bongos. I still have my bottle of u/v dye, sent me by Haydn, and ready for when it might be needed.

To Haydn I would say though (if he is reading this), just shrug it off. 3000+ Bongo LCA sales speak louder than any backbiting, and someone with a business interest, on a forum, will be very lucky to avoid this kind of stuff. I think its because members see this as a private network and are suspicious that any business person joining in is only doing so in the interests of promoting themselves. It's understandable in many ways, even if it is unfortunate; I can recall one or two thinly disguised traders joining the forum and whose jugular I went for very quickly when I thought their interest in Bongos was pretended and their product in need of having some hard questions asked in relation to its merits.

sorry to read Haydn`s comments but thanks to him for the brilliant low coolant alarm,probably the most useful of the many gadgets fitted to my Bongo.

The points have been taken onboard when previuosly mentioned and this is the reason the bulk buy section was set up.

So there is no reason to start this again

Now any member can, if they see a need, tout for how popular it may, be give prices, even get deposits before any financial outlay, on any bulk buy item.

The grey area between selling and helping is therefore clearer and more acceptable to all.

If you need clarification talk to Ian a Admin or the Mods of that section as the idea for the crediit for that section should be theirs.

Blimey! I had no idea I was stepping into a minefield. Sorry Haydn. You were enormously helpful to me a couple of years ago, and I'm really upset to learn that you suffered any hassle.
Not to worry - I'll find the UV dye somewhere else.

Probably worth pressure testing the coolant system, easier to see where/if it's leaking. Colud it be airlocked? Are you ok with bleeding it properly?

I have been losing a small amount of water and it took a bit of time and luck (if that’s the right word for a water leak on a bongo)to find it.
I went shopping and when I came back to the bongo there was an A5 size puddle (A5, as in paper not Audi) under the front passenger side but no obvious leak from anywhere.
When i got it home I pulled the heating intake off and saw a bit of damp, over about 6 inches, on the top of the rad but nothing mega, I then and ran the Bongo up to temp, no change on the moisture front . It wasn’t until she was turned off and started to cool down that a very fine spray appeared from the top of the rad on the drivers side on the castellated joint between the plastic top and the core.
I can only presume that when the system heats up the components in the rad top expand sealing the minute pin prick hole, but when she starts cooling they contract and the pressure in the system squirts some coolant out through this weak spot until there isn’t enough pressure in the system to do so.
In my case this obviously starts leaking a few minutes after stopping when I have gone indoors after work. By the time I go to use the bongo again in the morning any residual coolant has evaporated.
New rad ordered and a set of hoses for good measure....oh and yes I have a Hayden LCA but it arrived the same day the leak was pinpointed.
