Bongo Fury

Tyre pressures - we have a 2 wheel drive bongo (named Beryl) and cannot seem to get the tyre pressures right - any ideas ??

most people go around the 40-45psi mark.

Cripes - that's interesting. I thought I was being a 'hard man' putting mine at 40psi (although I am 215/55/17s which is a consideration I suppose). But I've rarely heard anyone on here talk about psi over 40.

My dealer said "35 front, 40 rear". This is the dealer that didn't screw the sink unit down properly.

Thanks guys - will change the pressure - no wonder she was feeling a bit sluggish !!!! Have noticed more and more Bongos on the Sussex coast - also found a great mechanic who will work on the Bongo - just got Beryl through her mot with a few repairs !!!

Once confident they can work on the Bongo competently, how about emailing Ian to get them on the recommended list - we can always do with more names on the list

I find 35 on the fronts 38 on the back is about right.. (2wd bongo with orginal size tyres (195/70/15 fronts 215/65/15 rears) keep in mind that if you pump the tires up too much, you will wear your swaybar droplinks out quicker, you will find that the correct pressure on the back tires still leaves them bulging slightly at the contact patch, this is normal for the weight of the bongo. Also depends on the weight and distribution of your conversion also.

They really are strange vehicles...I use 35 all round...never any problem, no uneven tyre wear, no handling problems...tyres seem to sit on the road properly, and tyres last pretty well

I recently fitted air suspension on the rear which really does help with the handling, no more rocking and rolling here and tyre pressure at 40 Psi around

Ah...Assisters...yes, I've been looking at those...we do a monster shop once a month, and buy 11 x 11 litre bottles of drinking water...that's 268 lbs alone, plus all household supplies...and the Bongo suspension barely copes...plus a friend usually comes, and there's sacks of dogfood, and goodness knows what.
I reckon one of those with the on-board compressor would really do the trick!....so it's nice to hear of a satisfied user!...Thanks

Loads of us with those fitted Helen, makes a huge difference, especially with backbox on or a bongo full of logs, woulda liked the onboard compressor jobby, but it only takes a minute to check/change pressures. My filling valves come up into the jack storage compartment.
I run my 17" tyres at @ 40 rear & 38 front, depends on tyres, loads etc what you use. I'd always found the Mazda recommended pressures (on 15's) too low.
