Bongo Fury

Hi all

Having just about avoided big problems with coolant loss, I have invested in a Haydn alarm. Instructions say that it has to be wired into a +ve that comes on with the ignition. The only problem is, the obvious cigy socket is wired to the leisure bat (We have a Willinton kit wire to all the usual things).

Can anybody recommend where to patch the temp alarm to?

Hi do you mean that the alarm is fitted with a plug to fit into the cigy socket?

No - it has bare wires for earth and live. Live has to be wired to a positive that comes on with the ignition and is fused.

Haydn is helping as well, so I'll post any results.

I think you also say you have your blinds,radio etc via the LB..
You could go to the ign switch,,,,,
10 mins with a cheap multi meter should find a switched live.

Yes.....connect to a Ignition switched live...ciggy socket or blinds feed....however many peeps re-route these to a perm feed from the LB.......
So...another supply point must be found and depending on modifications this can be determined with a multi meter.

Looks like I'm gonna have to crack open my cheap multimeter! I have one somewhere I think.

I'm hoping to fit the coolant alarm today and still need confrim a suitable wire to tap into for the +Ve. The elec window wire would seem suitable. The windows only work with the ignition on and are fused (30amp, second row down, third in from the left on the fuse panel).

Can anybody confrim that this would be suitable for a Haydn alarm?

I don't know of anyone to have used that wire....Probably be o.k......my only doubt would be the amount of power drawn whilst operating the windows.....it may cause enough load to make the alarm "mutter" whilst working the window switch.......Defo put a 3amp inline fuse in the alarms POS wire....30 amp is to much for the alarm wiring

Back of fuse board...the THICK Blue wire that feeds the fuses would be o.k. but again a 3amp inline fuse is a MUST

Does 'tapping it' require cutting the cable?

This is getting really annoying now. I'm sure it should be a lot easier than it appears to be. I'm still not sure how to tap into a suitable wire for the positive feed or which one to tap into. The larg blue one at the back of the fuse box seems to be a suitable cable if a 3amp fuse is used between that supply and the alarm, but how do I connect to it?

My cheap multimeter doesn't seem to be very reliable unfortunately. Straight off the leisure battery, it shows a voltage, but off the rear power sockets that runn off the leisure battery, nothing shows.

I'm not sure if there's a washer missing from my kit as well. The instructions say that the screw that protrudes into the header tank should be connected with the sensor cable and a washer. There doesn't appear to be one.

A comment by Misfixit on this thread appears to provide the simplist solution. I just need to modify the spade connector and plug the positive alarm connection to the spare side of a fuse removed for the Willinton kit.

I'm off to buy a fuse holder now - or perhaps use one of the spare ones on the panel.

Don't worry about the washer....the ring terminal serves the same purpose.
You can cut the wire as long as you use the crimp terminals provided in the kit.
I.e. cut the wire.....crimp the Blue terminal "provided" to one end of the "cut" wire and the alarm feed....crimp the red terminal to the other end of the cut wire.....then plug the terminals together....Bingo
