Bongo Fury

Sorry if I am covering old ground - by searching on this forum, it didn't appear as if there were any successfully concluded switch replacements, though I'm sure it must have been done.

In my fault finding thread, http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=47553, I have identified that the front o/s roof-down microswitch is damaged, and I want to replace it. I could just remove the switch and short the wires, search for another switch that fits 'well enough', or continue trying to resurrect the old one, but for the sake of 'doing the right thing'...

As I and others have found, Omron D2FW-G appears to be the correct replacement part (specifically, D2FW-G073M, 0.1A, NO, short leaf, I believe - D2FW-G071M would probably do).

Though I couldn't identify an appropriate replacement through Maplin, I have found these microswitches both on RS and Farnell for £5-6:

However, postage charges being 2-3 times the cost of the item, I am reluctant to order one immediately.

I've contacted a couple of breakers, but it's not going to be any more cost effective to source a used switch from them.

Questions:
[*] do you happen to already have a spare lying around?
[*] do you know of an alternative source for this part?
[*] do you have a credit account with either RS or Farnell that qualifies you for free delivery?
[*] do you life within spitting distance of an RS Trade Counter (http://uk.rs-online.com/web/generalDisp ... nchNetwork)?
[*] do you also need a replacement switch?

I'll watch this thread with interest. If the right part can be sourced at reasonable cost, I might schedule mine for repairing. Mind you, the other problem seems to be that I can't see any slack in the wiring for removing the old one and fitting a replacement.

Snip, solder extra wire, heatshrink, fit, tie/tape to tidy - how hard can it be???

The high cost isn't "delivery" as such the part is USA sourced and its the cost of the order from the States, all these firms are doing this now, so it doesn't matter if you have an account / trade Counter call or what you still get charged You have to be a bit careful when placing orders these days as its easy to miss the reference if your not watching for it:-(

Ahh, yes I saw that on Farnell - and RS are quoting 10 days - do you suppose it is the same for them, then?

You could do what I did 2/3 times......Invest £2/300 in sourcing a good supply.....then offer them to forum members at cost price plus Postage and perhaps 25p for your trouble.....then get "slagged" off for breaking forum rules and lining your pockets with gold........not everyone I hasten to add but enough to leave a bad taste...(you know who you are)

Yup, RS say its from the "Extended Range" basically they are all International firms now, and if they don't hold stock in the country, then they source from RS-USA or whatever and charge the one-off fee for ordering the items.

I tend to agree with Haydn on this - we need Ian to state a clear set of rules where someone within the club/forum offers to source a group buy - or perhaps Ian could do it via the shop himself for these sorts of items Ian ?

To avoid any problems in future, we are actively looking at setting up at "Group Buy" section on the forum. I think transparency is the key here.

Lets get the facts right Haydn no one "slagged" you off!, the forum rules say no selling on the forum, you got anything to sell place and add in the correct section theres the main page on this site, theres for sale under £50 and the free stuff or swaps?
whats hard about that?, others stick to the rules and those who have had post removed or sin binned for blatant selling generally flag others who are advertising on the forum to a mod or admin stating why is he allowed to sell on the forum and not me?

So that is why quite alot of your post get moved and sin binned because you do it on the forum threads most of the time, people come on a forum to talk to others and ask for advice not to read advertisements or be jumped on by people to buy this or you need one of these.


Fair enough you may have some thing that someone wants so an ad will do to promote your goods you wish to sell most people don't want things pushed in their face just like the guy who knocks at the door trying to sell double glazing, 95% of people don't want it.

I can understand you may have a £200 to £300 in hose clips are whatever you can always sell your goods on ebay.

I am all for people getting things in bulk to make things cheaper, (if its pence or pounds profit) but it gets annoying when you read a thread title and people know who will have posted in that thread already and what it will probably say.


I was going to remove your post to the sin bin and send you a pm explaining that your post isn't relevant to this thread and could be classed as baiting but, I thought I should reply to this thread so everyone else knows for future reference.
